How to Use the Ballistic Zero Target

1. Required Measurements

The accuracy of this target relies primarily on your Height Over Bore (HOB). Measure from the center of the rifle's bolt/bore to the center of the optic's tube or objective lens. An error of just 0.25 inches can result in a failed zero at 100 yards.

2. Critical Print Settings

Printers often handle scaling differently. For this generator, please use these settings in the Print Dialog to maintain a 1:1 scale:

  • Scale: Set to exactly 100% or "Actual Size."
  • Margins: Set to Default. (Note: Forcing "None" or borderless may squish the mathematical grid).
  • Verification: After printing, use a ruler to check the "1 Inch Calibration" line. If it is not exactly 1 inch, your zero calculations will be incorrect.

3. Mechanical Bore Sighting

This target features a centered Bore Axis. Because the target calculates the specific offset to compensate for Height Over Bore (HOB), you can perform an initial mechanical alignment by:

  • Securing the rifle at the specified Target Distance.
  • Looking through the barrel (bore) and centering it on the Bore Axis of the target.
  • Without moving the rifle, adjust your scope turrets until the reticle centers on the Red Point of Aim.

4. Live Fire: Aim vs. Impact

Maintain a perfect Point of Aim on the Red Reticle. Since your optic is higher than your barrel, the bullet must impact lower than your line of sight at close range.

  • Aim: Red Reticle.
  • Target Impact: Black Reticle (Desired Impact).
  • If your group is not centered on the Black Reticle, use the Dial Correction values shown on the panel to adjust your scope.

Final Confirmation

Once grouping on the Black Reticle at your short distance, you are mechanically aligned for your Zero Distance. You MUST verify this at the actual long-range distance to account for barrel harmonics and environmental drift.
